Comprehension series

The Scholastic Literacy Skills Comprehension series and CD offers teachers carefully structured guidance on how to use the essential comprehension skills of summarising, predicting, clarifying and questioning to extract the authors' meaning. Each book is progressive and supports the teaching and development of these comprehension strategies from the early years to Year 6. The series also provides a generic framework that teaches the reciprocal reading process - providing children with the confidence to explore and enjoy a range of 'real' books beyond the samples featured in the series. The skills pages show the children how to gather information, respond to questions meaningfully and generate their own literal, inferential and evaluative questions from quality fiction and non-fiction extracts. It also provides levelled comprehension assessment materials that correlate with NC reading age levels.
