Predicting
What happens next? |
- Use titles, pictures, experience to make predictions
- Ask group to discuss your predictions
- Ask group to read first part of text (approximately one or two paragraphs)

Clarifying
What does it mean? |
- Ask the group to identify words and phrases that are not understood
- Ask group to help by using context clues and picture clues
- If word remains unknown, teacher clarifies

Questioning
What questions could I ask? |
- Ask questions: Literal, Inferential, Evaluative
- Choose children to answer
- Ask children to answer question and discuss answer
- Ask children to discuss question type

Summarising
What have we read? |
- Summarise what group has read
- Be brief and cover main points only
- Ask group to change or add to your summary or necessary

Predicting
Choose another leader (Repeat Questioning. Continue cyle ofo questioning, clarifying, summarising) |
- Predict what you think the next sentence will be about
- Use last sentence, headings, pictures, own experiences
- Discuss predictions with group
