Developing early comprehension strategies in school and at home

Introductory half day INSET training explores the benefits of early development of comprehension enquiry skills at home and in school.

Think2Read’s ‘Story Talk’ workshops and interactive resources – how they provide families with the strategies and confidence to explore books more effectively for meaning and pleasure at home.
The ‘Story Talk’ Foundation lessons and activities – how they help to establish early reading for meaning skills across the curriculum in preparation for more explicit reciprocal comprehension skills instruction from Year 2 (the ‘SPECtacular Reading Mission’ programme).

explores how literal, inferential, evaluative questioning techniques develop effective reciprocal enquiry.
Introduces staff to Think2Read’s progressive programme and resources that develop these skills.

BESPOKE CONSULTANCY

Bespoke consultancy is available to schools to help support the development of the programme across the whole school depending on needs and priorities and may include;

support for leaders in developing a whole school consistent approach
in class support and modelling of both Team Skills and comprehension sessions
half day sessions to help review and reflect on the programme to support impact
support in developing the accompanying assessment programme

If travel and overnight accommodation is required these costs will be charged in addition to training.
